MINI’s new Double Clutch Transmission combines two partial transmissions into one single housing. Is MINI’s Double Clutch Transmission considered a Manual or an Automatic transmission?

Technically, it’s both. The actual gear selection by clutches is similar to a manual transmission but is controlled electronically without the need for a clutch pedal – like an automatic transmission. Gear shifts can also be controlled in Steptronic mode, where you can move the shifter forwards/backwards to select a gear.

I thought Double Clutch Transmissions were for “the race track” – how will it feel driving in the city?

MINI’s Double Clutch Transmission is strategically engineered and refined to offer comfort in city driving situations. It even features a Crawl Function to enable more comfortable idling in stop & go traffic.
